《搖滾卡帶》是一部長紀錄片，探索卡帶意想不到的復興，以及它持續至今的文化影響。透過訪談音樂人、收藏家、唱片廠牌經營者，以及卡帶的原始發明者 Lou Ottens，影片描繪這個曾被視為過時的媒介，如何成為 DIY 創作、親密感與個人表達的象徵。這部紀錄片結合懷舊與文化史，將混音帶視為情感與身份的載體，並反思為什麼在數位時代，具有觸感、不完美、深具個人性的卡帶依然能引起共鳴。

About the movie:

Cassette: A Documentary Mixtape is a feature-length documentary exploring the unexpected resurgence and enduring cultural impact of the compact cassette. Through interviews with musicians, collectors, label owners, and the cassette’s original inventor Lou Ottens, the film traces how this once-obsolete format became a symbol of DIY creativity, intimacy, and personal expression. Blending nostalgia with cultural history, the documentary examines mixtapes as artifacts of emotion and identity, and reflects on why the tactile, imperfect, and deeply personal nature of cassettes continues to resonate in a digital age.

Director’s intro:

Director Zack Taylor is a commercial videographer living in New York City. He studied film at the Newport Film School in Wales. Cassette is his first feature film. Zack began making mixtapes for friends as a teenager. Cassette grew out of a nostalgia not only for the medium, but for the process of compiling music for other people.
