READER
A documentary on reading
"Reader" is a documentary exploring the world of reading. Through conversations with authors, reading advocates, and reading communities, the film explores why we read and whether it still matters in the age of AI.
Featuring readers and reading communities from Taiwan and around the world, "Reader" takes us on a journey into the culture of reading from the quiet act of reading alone to the unexpected connections that books can create between people.
In a time when information is everywhere and AI can instantly summarize, explain, and generate almost anything, we began to wonder: What does it mean to be a reader today? Why do we still choose to spend hours with a book when so much information can be accessed in seconds? What happens when we read together? And what can reading give us that technology cannot?
“Reading is a path to becoming ourselves.” This film is not just about books or the habit of reading, but about the people, connections, and journeys of self-discovery that reading can inspire. We hope "Reader" doesn’t just make you want to pick up a book, but invites you to think about why you read and what reading might mean in the future.
